ITN Gets Ready to FringeNYC

The 20th annual New York International Fringe Festival gets underway on August 12. Did you think Indie Theater Now wasn’t going to be there?

As you probably know, ITN and FringeNYC have been partners from the very beginning. My own personal history goes back to the very first festival, and over these past 2 decades I have been involved with FringeNYC in a variety of capacities: adjudicator, leader of nytheatre.com’s reviewing squad (which covered every single show in every single festival from 2002 through 2014), panelist, co-producer (with NYTE managing director Rochelle) of FringeU, and — the accomplishment I both never expected and am perhaps most proud of — MC at the festival’s opening ceremonies more times than anyone else.

ITN launched five years ago with more than 100 plays from the FringeNYC festivals — plays written by indie theater all-stars like Antonio Sacre, John Clancy, Qui Nguyen, Trav S.D., Kelly McAllister, Kevin R. Free, Saviana Stanescu, Julia Lee Barclay-Morton, Ellen K. Anderson, Chris Harcum, Frank Kuzler, Tim Nolan, Liza Lentini, Carolyn Raship, Tony Pennino, Ed Malin, and dozens more.

This year, we’re going to do something we’ve never done before. Instead of waiting until the very end of the festival to announce the plays chosen for our FringeNYC annual collection on ITN, we’ll be announcing the plays BEFORE the festival. Next week, in fact.

We may even be teasing you this week with a few pre-announcement announcements, if that’s the right term.

Meanwhile, get in the mood by perusing the last 19 years of FringeNYC, as represented in our collections of more than 300 remarkable scripts from those years.

And watch this space for updates…
