The Farm Theater’s College Collaboration 2016/17
Welcome to the Farm Report.
We will be documenting the Farm Theater’s two play development programs that are happening in 2016/17 academic year.
The College Collaboration Project commissions a playwright to write a play that will be developed with three universities throughout the academic year. This year’s playwright is Micheline Auger and the participating schools are SUNY Brockport, Centre College, and University of West Florida.
Micheline will write a play that will be independently produced throughout the academic year by each of the schools. She will participate in the process and is encouraged to rewrite during rehearsals as well as between each new production.
The theme that Micheline is exploring is ‘how gender effects our behavior’. She has already spoke with students from two of the schools to hear their thoughts on the topic and will speak with the third school later this week.
The Farm Theater’s second play development program is called The Barnstorming Project.
The Barn Storming Project commissions a playwright to write a play that will be developed with the Maryland Area Community College Performing Arts Collective (MACCPAC) which includes Carroll Community College, Howard Community College, and Prince George’s Community College.
The playwright for this project is Christopher Gabriel Nunez. This program the schools will collaborate on the each of the three productions keeping the ensemble together throughout the three shows
Chris is visiting the three schools in the first week of April to talk with the students and hear their thoughts on the topic or race and racism.
The playwrights, faculty members, students, and myself will blog to document the process of the development of the scripts. Our goal with the fifteen month process is to cultivate a long conversation on the topics through the creation and presentation of the plays.
We hope you’ll follow the process and join in the discussions.
