All Roads Lead to Daniel Talbott

November 19, 2011

Today happens to be Daniel Talbott’s birthday; I imagine Facebook had to add in extra servers to handle the massive volume of well-wishers posting on his wall.

Daniel is one of the most special and beloved individuals working in the indie theater community. He’s the artistic director of Rising Phoenix Repertory, one of the literary managers at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, a brilliant actor and director and producer AND photographer, and the author of several wonderful plays, including two on Indie Theater Now — Slipping and What Happened When.

Daniel is the focal point for much of the best work happening in indie theater in NYC these days. He directed two other ITN plays: Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times) by Jonathan Blitstein and Eightythree Down by J. Stephen Brantley; and several more that are forthcoming (Crystal Skillman’s The Telling Trilogy, Daniel Reitz’s Three Sisters, Rules of the Universe, and Fall Forward). He’s curating the Cino Nights Collection on ITN, which will be published in 2012 and features plays by Kristen Palmer, Adam Szymkowicz, Mando Alvarado, Emily DeVoti, Lucy Thurber, Jessica Dickey, and Courtney Baron. He introduced me to Caridad Svich (her Kill to Eat is now on ITN).

We are grateful that Daniel is such an enthusiastic and talented member of the Indie Theater Now family. Learn more about him here.
